3 Ways in Which Smart Hybrid Technology Enhances Fuel Efficiency | Arenaworld

Smart Hybrid Technology by Maruti Suzuki works to ensure two of the important things that everyone driving a car is concerned about – saving fuel and enhancing fuel-efficiency. But, owing to the benefits it has on offer, the Smart Hybrid technology is also a key step towards greener and cleaner mobility.

Introduced with the launch of NEXA Ciaz in 2015, Maruti Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid Technology has since then made its way in four more cars within the Maruti Suzuki line-up – Baleno, Ertiga, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza.

Maruti Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid technology is a progressive technology that employs an Integrated Starter Generator (ISG) which replaces the conventional alternator. It comes with a dual battery set up which is a combination of Lithium-Ion and Lead Acid battery.

How is Smart Hybrid helping to Enhance Fuel Efficiency?

Well, it is doing that in 3 ways. Here’s how they come into play: -

 • When the Car is in Idle

You are stuck in traffic and your car is at a standstill. The Smart Hybrid Technology is designed with an Idle Stop Start function which is an integral part of this technology. This automatically turns off the engine when at standstill. Once you are ready to go, you just have to depress the clutch. As soon as you do that, the car starts again. This helps in reducing fuel consumption and enhances fuel efficiency.

 • Every Time You Brake

Another way the Smart Hybrid Technology helps in enhancing the fuel efficiency is brake energy regeneration. In this, the ISG uses the electricity that is generated with the help of regenerative braking to keep the dual battery setup charged. The kinetic energy which is produced when the car slows down is converted into electrical energy. This is then stored in the dual battery set up which helps in Torque Assist.

 • By Assisting During Acceleration

In this, the energy that is stored in the dual battery set up is utilized by the ISG to assist the engine during acceleration. This is known as the Torque Assist function which helps in reducing the load on the engine, thus increasing the fuel efficiency.

The cars that come equipped with Smart Hybrid Technology are, in fact, future-ready. This technology doesn’t just enhance the overall driving performance but also makes the car a more fuel-efficient and eco-friendly option. In essence, it is bridging the gap towards achieving greener mobility. To know more about Maruti Suzuki’s Smart Hybrid Technology, click here.
